On a scale of 1 to bankrupt, how bad of an idea would this be?

It’s no secret , !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Especailly the pre-facelift version. I know the facelifted one fixed the problem with the head studs and updated the interior, which were two glaring issues with the early W204 C63s, but I like the styling of these more.

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I’m not thick, I know that it’s not going to be cheap to maintain, but then to do 18k miles per year, you do have to take care of it. These cars don’t really do well with neglect. However, with a purchase price that low, you could get this and then have money left over for those inevitable repairs . Maybe it’s a good thing I would be upside down if I traded my 328i, otherwise I might be seriously tempted; I don’t want to finance any negative equity. Might go look at it regardless.

I have mixed feelings about these.

But After living with an automatic for the last 10 months, I can’t see myself getting back into another one.

I prefer the look of the early ones more too, but the later ones really are significantly better. I think they also switched to a much quicker dual clutch in place of an auto with the later one too

I think I could be alright with an auto, as long as there was no manual option. That said, I don’t think I’m ready to get up the manual. Maybe as long as I have at least one manual car I’ll be alright. I went to look at an Alfa on the 4th and I really like them, but the fact that they don’t have a stick is kind of a deal breaker.

I don’t think I would get a pre-facelift one just because the updated one is so much better. I also didn’t realize that they originally came with an auto. I did know that the LSD wasn’t standard, but kind of boggles my mind.

I thought I could live with an auto since thathat was the only option. I was sorely mistaken.

Yeach, the early ones came with the 7g-t ronic with a torque converter . It’ s a good auto, but apparently the later 7g-tronic MCT (dual clutch) is significantly better.

That said, I recall people complaining about lag in both the early auto and the MCT - taking a moment to downshift while in auto and in response to input.

If you've driven an F80 DCT or a late E90 DCT, you will likely be unimpressed by even the MCT C63 IMO.

Would this car be racking up the miles as your 328i does?

The facelift cars really are much better, but they’re all an awful lot of fun.

For what it’s worth, mine has been worry-free for the last 15 months.

It seems like facelifted cars > pre-facelift, in everything apart from styling, imo.

That’s good to know if I ever get enough to actually get a C63.

Nah, I’m not putting miles on it like I used to.

What are you driving? I can’t remember.

I haven’t spent any more than 5 minutes driving one, so I can’t testify to how good/bad the transmissions are.

I have driven an both an E92 and an F82 with a DCT and that did feel pretty fast.

Q50 with the 3.0t and a tune. Should make about 410 at the wheels.

The p lan was to use that as a daily driver and to pick up a project car like an E30 or an E34. But I’m on the verge of abandoning that idea and just getting something like an F 80 because I am really tired of the Q50 and its slow automatic and open diff. Fiance is tired of the Infiniti too because of the slow and weak AC and the jerky brake and throttle. I never noticed those things but they're slightly more apparent now that she mentioned it.
